In its simplest terms, Reiki is the practice of connecting with spiritual (rei) energy (ki) for healing and vitality. It is a deeply spiritual practice, but not religious in the sense that it does not connect with any particular dogma (and in fact, the principles are ones that show up in many religions’ ideals). Because of my background, I found this post on Reiki and Christianity interesting.
Reiki works on the mind, body, and spirit. It is a simple but powerful tool to connect with Divine energy. As intentions are energetic in nature, they also play a vital role in this practice (as does intuition). There are 5 main principles in Usui Reiki, and for each one there are corresponding Chakras (Energy Centers) you can connect with as you repeat these affirming principles (printable PDF version is available too).
- Just for today, I will not worry. (Heart/Root Chakras)
- Just for today, I will not be angry. (3rd Eye/Root Chakras)
- Just for today, I will do my work honestly. (3rd Eye/Solar Plexus Chakras)
- Just for today, I will give thanks for my many blessings. (Crown/3rd Eye Chakras)
- Just for today, I will be kind to my neighbor and every living thing. (Throat moving to 3rd Eye/Root moving to Heart Chakras)
These principles are wonderful reminders to first and foremost, stay present in the moment (i.e. “just for today”) as well as serving as great reminders for areas of focus. Trust the flow, be joyous, operate with integrity, be filled with gratitude, and be kind to all. May we all find moments throughout each day to affirm these to ourselves.
