For those of you who are familiar with the enneagram, I’ll begin by saying I’m a 4 with a 5 wing. For those who aren’t familiar with it, in short it means I’m very creative and I like to dig deep and study to understand the things that catch my interest (4s also do well with a physical passion that helps to ground them). Add to that my natural inclination towards hyper-focusing, and you’ll understand a little better about how I landed where I am now as I share with you.
A Little History
In my late teens, I began getting into crystals and the metaphysical. I was fascinated. But I went off to college and other priorities asserted themselves. Later, I became immersed in religion which taught me (wrongly – in my opinion) that working with stones/crystals was wrong. So I got rid of the ones I had and moved on in my spiritual journey. It has been rich and varied, and in large part it has been marked by deep and intentional pursuit of relationship with the Divine.
Note: A quick aside to say if you haven’t read My Disclaimer, I encourage you to do so. It helps give the lens/filter for how to take what I share on here.
I will also note that I’m not knocking the route my faith has taken because I can see the various things I’ve learned at each step. I’ve also realized over my multi-decade walk that if we’re on a spiritual journey, we should expect movement and growth. As someone who journals and blogs, my path and ever-evolving beliefs and experiences are well documented and easy to see. What I believed 5 years ago is different than what I believe today, and I am sure the same will be true 5 years from now. I honor each part of my journey, even the parts where I held fast to something I now see differently. I extend the same grace to myself that I do to others on their walk and that I ask they also give to me.
Amassing My Collection
Picking up my story again, fast forward several decades to the first of February 2020. Apropos of nothing, I sensed Source telling me to buy a crystal. I was shocked! After all, for decades I’d been a “good girl” and stayed away from them having been told and believing that they were bad. All of these objections I raised, and I sensed Creator say, “Who do you think made them?” LOL!
Filled with apprehension, I began looking for which crystal I was supposed to get. I found a 42mm clear quartz sphere that felt like it was being highlighted. As I hesitated, Spirit reminded me of a truth that I often shared with others who seek to live in alignment with the Divine. What I heard was, “My ability to lead you, exceeds your ability to screw it up.”

In other words, even if what I was doing was somehow the “wrong” step, if my heart motivation was pure (in the sense that my desire truly was to yield to Spirit’s leading) then I trusted that Spirit would find a way to redirect me if it was needed. So with that encouragement, I purchased the first of what would become many (and I do mean many) crystals.
As an avid photographer, I began documenting the journey and all my beautiful acquisitions – because let’s face it, if nothing else, the stones/crystals are worth admiring for their beauty! Almost by accident I started taking what I call a “class picture” of each piece when it would arrive. And, I’d use the mark-up capabilities to note what it was. I gave each piece its own album and clustered the albums by type into folders to make them easier to track.

Speaking Through Rocks
One can’t collect stones/crystals and not know they have crystal meanings/metaphysical properties connected to them whether you ascribe to them or not (Do Stones/Crystals have Metaphysical Properties?). Because of how I’m wired, as I acquired more pieces, I made a point to note the properties connected to the various stones/crystals. So I began noting the properties for each piece in the caption of its class picture, which made it easy to reference.
I began noticing Spirit highlighting things to me within the properties on a regular basis. Especially when I would have multiple pieces in my pocket, suddenly connections between them would become clear. Sometimes I would even hear intuitive downloads or affirmations for me to come into agreement with that were connected to the stones’ properties.

The stones/crystals then became true touchstones for my prayers and intentions. As I would interact with them throughout the day – even if it was just to view them – they would remind me of things I was coming into agreement with. Later this developed into rituals like New Moon Intention Setting (which I’ll share about separately), but what I found over time was that through consistent use I was seeing change in areas that had previously been stubborn.
I began recording my own meditations with the affirmations I’d documented, and would replay them both with intention (when I had time to sit and be still – typically with an element in my hand), and when I was on the go (letting them play in the background while I worked). As a result of my practices, I noticed that I consistently stayed in a higher level of joy and peace (and as someone who has struggled with depression this was a BIG win). Additionally, I was better at safeguarding my energy (I share more about this in Owning What is Yours (and Resisting Taking on What Isn’t)). Again this was a big win.
I share all that to say that what I am sharing are essentially my notes. They’re a work in progress but they are part of my journey and in putting them here I’m welcoming them to be a part of your journey too. If you’re blessed by what you find here, please let me know in the comments. If you have questions or suggestions, feel free to do the same. My only request is that you be open and respectful if you decide to interact.
