When I first tell people about my rock and crystal obsession, they often will ask if I *really believe* that they have metaphysical properties. At the end of the day, I don’t know that my personal opinion matters to anyone but me – so instead I’ll share these thoughts for you to ponder as you form your own opinion.
So let’s start with the theory the crystals have no properties. Even if that is the case, the placebo effect is real. When we believe something is true it has power whether or not it actually has any real power. So from that standpoint, it almost doesn’t matter whether the stones have actual power, it matters if we believe they do.
This is an energetic principle. What we focus on we make room for. So if we are focusing on calming energy by assigning that property to a crystal and then every time we see or touch it we are coming into agreement with that calming energy, we are more likely to manifest its appearance because we are focused on it and making room for it (which also means we’re more likely to notice it when it comes). So from this perspective, these tangible reminders can be surprisingly effective, and additionally they can be comforting, stabilizing, grounding, and any number of other supportive descriptors.
One of the hang ups people have is that they can’t *see* the stones/crystals “doing” anything. However, just because we don’t see it, doesn’t mean it’s not real. If we think in terms of essential oils, we know they are fragrant, but we can’t *see* their benefit. However, through people sharing their experiences we know people find specific uses connected to specific oils – sometimes physical and sometimes emotional, and perhaps metaphysical as well. For example, lavender helps to heal burns, it’s used to bring calm and a sense of peace, and it helps encourage sleep. When I look at lavender I can’t see these things, but through people sharing their experiences we have now assigned these “properties” to lavender.
In the same way, the properties/crystal meanings/metaphysical properties (whatever you want to call them) of stones/crystals/rocks have been aggregated over the years based on input from many people’s experiences. What I record on this site are the ones I’ve seen or am coming into agreement with.
Now let’s pause for a moment and consider the possibility that these beautiful stones and crystals do in fact have the properties that have been assigned to them. Why wouldn’t you want to make use of them? In the same way someone might take some extra vitamin C if they’re feeling under the weather, utilizing something because of its strength (ie property) only makes sense. It’s not like you can’t heal without vitamin C, but it may help assist the healing process. In the same way, these specimens may assist you with what you’re going through. As for me, I just am intentional to remember the true power all comes back to Source from which we come (as do all the lovely mineral creations around us).
And at the end of the day, if you get to spend your life surrounded by the beauty of creation – well that’s just a beautiful way to spend your life properties or no properties!
